For the ultimate window covering, wood venetian blinds enhance your home with timeless sophistication. The warm and versatile character of these blinds will invite nature into your living space.

We manufacture our wood venetian blinds from two types of timber. The wood traditionally used by the blind manufacturing industry is called Ramin, sourced from Indonesia. Modern processing techniques now give us a wider choice of wood types from which to manufacture these blinds. Since introducing Abachi into the country in 1999 it has proved to be an overwhelming success, particularly in the Gauteng area. Like Ramin, Abachi is a tropical wood with similar characteristics but for one crucial difference, it is roughly 35-40% lighter in weight. Large wooden blinds, once cumbersome and difficult to operate, are now more manageable.

Manufacturing standard and technical details:

Our wooden venetian blinds are constructed using a robust chromadeck head rail and brass cord lock system. All other components are manufactured from hardened plastic to give years of trouble free service. Abrasion resistant polyester ladders and cords with wooden buttons and tassels complete the design. A wooden valance is used to cover the working parts and create an attractive pelmet.

Ramin wood is available in both 25mm and 50mm slats of roughly 3mm thickness whereas our Abachi range is only available in 50mm slats.

Since wood is a natural product it has inherent imperfections such as slight warping and colour variations. The darker colours in the Ramin range will tend to fade over a period of time, particularly when exposed to harsh sunlight. This adds to the dynamic character of wood. The Abachi range of colours is far more resistant to fading and will show little change over a period of years.

The manufacturing design of wood venetian blinds is such that the slats do not close completely. Once can therefore see between the slats when standing right up against the blind. However, when viewed from a distance wood venetian blinds offer complete privacy.

When a wood venetian blind is raised you end with a stack of wood. The stacking height of these blinds is calculated as follows:

25mm width slat = 160mm per metre drop + 65mm i.e. 2m drop = stacking height of 385mm
50mm width slat = 80mm per metre drop + 65mm i.e. 2m drop = stacking height of 225mm

This is an important consideration when positioning the blinds over doorways. When the blind is raised the slats will stack to a height indicated above. To avoid obstructing the door opening the blind is normally installed on the face of the wall some 150-200mm above the door frame with a small overlap down the sides of the door opening.

The approximate weight of timber blinds is as follows:

Ramin = 3,5kg per square metre
Abachi = 2.3kg per square metre

For large window or door openings we recommend the use of Abachi wood.
Wood venetian blinds are not recommended for damp areas such as bathrooms unless there is very good ventilation.

We currently stock thirteen colours ranging from a light Maple to a rich brown called Mocha.
